Our Story


Bethany had always found solace in her small studio community, surrounded by like-minded individuals who shared her passion for yoga. But as her travels took her further and further from home, she found herself missing the warmth and connection of her studio family.

Determined to find a sense of belonging on the road, Bethany searched for virtual studios that captured the same intimate, small-studio vibes. But every platform she tried felt impersonal, lacking the genuine connections she craved.

Undeterred, Bethany decided to take matters into her own hands. She envisioned a virtual studio that would bring together travelers and yogis from all over the world, fostering a sense of community and connection that transcended physical borders. And so, Roaming Mat Yoga was born.

With a clear vision and a passion for yoga, Bethany set out to create a platform that would bring people together, no matter where they were in the world.

What is Kriya Yoga

Kriya Yoga is an ancient spiritual practice that combines meditation, breath control, and movement to help quiet the mind, balance the body's energy, and cultivate inner awareness. Rooted in traditional yogic teachings, Kriya Yoga aims to awaken the inner self, promote spiritual growth, and lead practitioners toward greater peace, clarity, and self-realization.

Kriya Yoga's modern lineage can be traced back to Lahiri Mahasaya, a 19th-century Indian yogi who was said to have received initiation from Mahavatar Babaji. Lahiri Mahasaya's disciple, Sri Yukteswar Giri then further popularized the practice, and his student Paramahansa Yogananda brought Kriya Yoga to the West through his book "Autobiography of a Yogi" and the Self-Realization Fellowship. This lineage emphasizes the practical application of ancient yogic techniques for spiritual growth and self-realization.

Bethany, instructor and owner of roaming Matt yoga received her Kriya Yoga Training through Yoga Hive studios and Mollie Busby who was trained in the Kriya Yoga tradition in the Himalayas of Northern India.

Meet the Instructor

Bethany McAnally is an inspiring force within the realms of health and wellness, dedicated to empowering individuals through the transformative practices of yoga and fitness. With over a decade of experience in yoga, she completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in May of 2025, solidifying her commitment to sharing the profound benefits of this ancient practice with others.

A graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance, Bethany's journey into movement and mindfulness began at an early age. Her background in dance not only honed her physical abilities but also nurtured a deep appreciation for the connection between body and mind. This foundation has seamlessly translated into her yoga practice, enriching her understanding of movement and enhancing her teaching style. 

Bethany’s dedication to service extends beyond the mat; as a proud veteran, she embodies the values of discipline, leadership, and commitment. After her military service, she sought to channel her experiences into positively impacting the lives of others. Now, she travels throughout the Midwest, leading outdoor programs for Girl Scout troops. Through these initiatives, Bethany instills confidence and a sense of adventure in young girls, encouraging them to embrace nature, teamwork, and personal growth.

Her commitment to fostering community and connection shines through in her work with the Girl Scouts. Bethany uses her expertise in yoga and fitness to design programs that not only promote physical health but also encourage emotional well-being and personal development. She inspires her students to explore their boundaries, discover their strengths, and cultivate a sense of belonging and empowerment.

Bethany believes that everyone has the potential to transform their lives through movement and mindfulness. She continues to foster an inclusive environment where individuals can explore their capabilities and embrace their unique journeys. As a graduate from the Arctic Hive’s 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training, Bethany looks forward to deepening her impact on the wellness community and inspiring countless individuals to embark on their own paths to self-discovery and well-being though Roaming Mat Yoga LLC.
